 Is it only me who thinks music artists in the music industry today must add the infamous prefix “young” to create a “original” stage name? Balance510 differs from a lot of the stage names that stir along side in the music industry mixing pot. His work and material truly represents the talented artist he is. Its music artists like these who conjure up their work that feeds us to not only appreciate the music, but the artist himself. A true musician at heart with multiple talents explains how a fellow like himself landed in the path towards his dream. I sensed his ambition and how eager he comes off throughout his responses; which definitely grabbed my attention. We all wait on the edge of our seat and listen for Balance510 to fetch us hungry dogs for his delicious tracks. But not only does he have his heart for music, he dabbles his hands into something that classifies him as a double threat.
1 . Where can you say your music background began? Your story.

“I first started rapping back in Jr High School, I used to freestyle at lunch time. Never seen myself as a rapper ‘til high school when I got in a rap group called “order”.  That’s where took freestyling and started writing songs and performing live. It’s all a blur though, lol, I been in so many groups – seems like I was in a new group every year.”
 

 

2 . Who are the artists whom you most admire and/or have been an inspiration to your
career?

“Too Short, E-40, Spice 1, Jay-Z, Tupac, NWA, Ice Cube too many to name, lol. Even the weak artists inspire me, lol, they inspire me to never be them.”
 

 

3 . Three words that describe the image your craft conveys. (Think about words/phrases
like sense of humor or conceptual thinking in connection with your music, etc.)

“West Coast Hip Hop”
 

 

4 . Three words that describe your personal characteristic. (Think about words/phrases
like sense of humor or conceptual thinking in connection with your music, etc.)

“Never say never.”
 

 

5 . Describe a typical day in the life of “You”.

“Wake up, surf the internet.  Eat.  Go to gym. Make calls. Work on music.”
 6 . What other music related skills do you possess? 

“I used to play trumpet and violin, lol for like one year.  It was part of elementary school curriculum. Sad to think they cut that out of schools now no money.” 
7 . What is it about the way you rap that makes it different than other artist of the same
genre?

 

“I think I’m balanced. I rap about many different subjects and feelings. One day I may be funny, one day I may be sad, one day I may be breaking up with my girl. One day I may be in da club.  That’s how my music is.”
 

 

8 . What do you see as the boundaries of your art practice?

“In rap there are so many rules. Lol. It’s hard to dream and put fantasy in rap music because we are so determined for everything to be “real” that’s one reason I want to do film because I can play who ever I want or write whatever story I want and not have to worry about people saying ‘yo that ain’t real’.”

 
 

 

9 . What do critics and/or other artists say about your music? 

“People say I don’t sound like your typical bay artist, lol whatever that means.  But overall people are excited to see what I’m going to do next and that’s a blessing.”

“Dr. Dre because I think he understands how to make great rap albums.”

1 2 .What are some of your short term career goals?

“Short term goal is to finish my second solo indie album. Keep getting better and to finally sign a major label deal.”
 

 

1 3 .What are your long term goals?

“To go down, as one of the best MCs ever, from the west coast. Also I wanna release and sign other acts to my label inde music.  I wanna write screen plays for movies.  That’s my long term goals – conquer music and film.”
 

 

1 4 .If you weren’t doing this… What do you see yourself doing?

“I’d be teaching or working with computers”
